Ericeira >> Novigrad: En Route

Muzej – Museo Lapidarium

is pleased to invite you to the presentation of the project

Ericeira >> Novigrad: En Route

by Portuguese artist

Rui Miguel Leitão Ferreira

at Rigo Gallery, on Saturday, 4 July 2026 at 9 p.m., in the presence of the artist.

The starting point of the project is the physical journey of artist Rui Miguel Leitão Ferreira from his hometown of Ericeira in Portugal to Novigrad-Cittanova in Croatia. Driving his Art Car across Europe, Ferreira transforms the route into a living map of encounters, visual interventions, geographical crossings, and personal notes. The road becomes a working method, unfolding as a slow form of research.

At Rigo Gallery, through conversation and presentation, Ferreira will introduce his project as an “exhibition in progress” and begin his creative work. In this way, Rigo Gallery becomes the artist’s temporary studio, where, day by day, Ferreira invites the public into the images of his journey and personal ecosystem, gradually building an exhibition whose final form will emerge on the last day of his stay in Novigrad-Cittanova.

Rigo Gallery also becomes a workshop space: a place of encounter between the artist and the public, of dialogue and exchange of experiences, creativity, and engagement with contemporary artistic approaches.

Ericeira >> Novigrad: En Route opens up questions about places that increasingly become images, images that become lifestyles, and lifestyles that turn into landscapes. The project remains intentionally unfinished and exists as a journey that continues, as an archive still being built, and as an exhibition taking shape in front of the public.

About the artist

Rui Miguel Leitão Ferreira was born in Lisbon in 1977. He lives and works in Ericeira, Lisbon, and Vienna. He graduated in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon in 2005 and received an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2012.

In his recent work, Ferreira explores the relationships between travelling along the European coastline, driving, creating objects that evoke painting and sculpture, social media, personal cartography, and the process of making art. His latest practice moves away from conventional exhibition formats and turns toward process-based art, installation, and the living archive of travel.

He is the recipient of the Chelsea Arts Club Trust Fund Award in London. He exhibits regularly in international contexts, including institutions and galleries such as Museu Coleção Berardo in Lisbon, Galerie Krinzinger in Vienna, and Mind Set Art Center in Taipei.

The exhibition remains open until 3 August 2026.
