Vlasta Delimar returns to Gallery Rigo to mark her seventieth birthday with the performance The Dignity of Ageing. This event continues the remarkable thirty-year relationship between the artist and Gallery Rigo, which began in 1996 with the exhibition I Am 40 Years Old, followed by the performances I Am 50 Years Old in 2006 and I Am 60 Years Old in 2016. Each of these encounters took place on 31 July, Vlasta Delimar’s birthday.
Within this unique performative continuity, each new decade brings an uncompromising reflection on the artist’s relationship with ageing, with her body acting as an archive of time and a powerful medium of public expression.
The performance at Gallery Rigo takes place within a site-specific installation. The space, covered in white tulle, creates a permeable setting between the artist’s seventy-year-old body, the gallery’s distinctive Baroque architecture and its visitors.
Throughout the evening, the artist will invite members of the audience, as well as passers-by, to join her and be photographed with her. The duration of the performance is not predetermined. It will continue for as long as there is interest in interacting with Vlasta Delimar.
We invite you to attend this important anniversary not only as observers, but as active participants in an encounter in which personal time is transformed into a shared aesthetic experience.
