Đanino Božić – Coram Publico

It has been more than thirty years since Đanino Božić first presented his work in Novigrad. He has been active on the art scene for just as long, first in Croatia, and later in (Central) Europe. No matter how we define these geographical frameworks, it can certainly be said that Božić has been a steady presence and a perceptive witness to the art of his time, a figure who comes across as a self-aware, authentic and, above all, prolific artist. Throughout this time, Božić has been continuously creating, exhibiting, and attentively following developments in the art world, thereby opening up new chapters and fields of inquiry into formal structures and their elaboration. Although he gravitates towards logos and order, his long-standing career demonstrates that he can just as effortlessly, and almost playfully, engage with a variety of artistic idioms.
This exhibition by Đanino Božić at the Lapidarium Museum is likewise neither linear nor narrative in structure, but rather fragmented into objects, painterly reliefs, and sculptural installations created over the past decade, whose articulation is shaped by the artist’s focus on their spatial combinatorics. In this way, despite the fact that some works appear to multiply, while others are monochromatic or tactile, he modifies them into an “aesthetic state”, a condition subjected to the concepts of material, colour, and form interference, applied across distinct visual groupings.
The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the Region of Istria – Administrative Department for Culture and Local Heritage Education, the City of Novigrad-Cittanova and the Tourist Board of Novigrad-Cittanova.
